Now is the time to know
That all that you do is sacred.

Now, why not consider
A lasting truce with yourself and God.

Now is the time to understand
That all your ideas of right and wrong
Were just a child’s training wheels
To be laid aside
When you finally live
With veracity
And love.

Hafiz is a divine envoy
Whom the Beloved
Has written a holy message upon.

My dear, please tell me,
Why do you still
Throw sticks at your heart
And God?

What is it in that sweet voice inside
That incites you to fear?

Now is the time for the world to know
That every thought and action is sacred.

This is the time
For you to compute the impossibility
That there is anything
But Grace.

Now is the season to know
That everything you do
Is sacred.

(“The Gift” – versions of Hafiz by Daniel Ladinsky)

Prayer is about becoming receptive
It’s about learning the art of relaxation
rather than learning the strategies of how to conquer our reality.
Truth is not going to be a conquest, it is going to be total surrender.
Its about becoming a host, it’s about opening up.
It’s about being receptive so that the wind can come in,
the rain can come in, and the sun can come in.
And just hidden behind the wind, the rain and the sun comes the Guest.
And the guest does not come from the outside, it arises within you.
God is the guest, you are the host.
You become a welcome,
You become a prayer,
You become an invitation,
And the host is waiting, always waiting
You are waiting, with tears in your eyes, and with tremendous trust in your heart.

Develop the strength to speak honestly:
Children, if someone asks about our life-style, our reply should be “Doesn’t each of us act for his or her own peace and happiness? We see mental peace in this life-style. Why should you question our basic values? You seek happiness far and wide. See how much money you spend on luxuries, on intoxicants and on things you don’t really need! Why should you feel upset if we go to our ashram or show interest in spiritual matters?” We should develop the strength to speak openly like that. Don’t be timid. Be bold. We should lead our lives nurturing our spiritual heritage within us. It is not necessary to have any shame about our life-style; shame brings only a sense of loss. Say openly “We have chosen this path for our spiritual peace. But for our peace, don’t we still build houses, get married and work at various jobs? We achieve peace through our path. Our aim is mental peace, not liberation or a heaven that we get after death. Do you feel peaceful?” Once we get on a boat or a bus, we need not continue carrying our loads on our heads. Children, surrender everything to Him. If we lead our lives with this attitude of surrender, we will be free from sorrow. He will always guard and protect us. ”

A man
born blind can easily
deny the magnificence of a vast landscape.
He can easily deny all the wonders that he cannot touch,
smell, taste, or hear.
But one day the wind will show you its kindness
and remove the tiny patches that
covered our eyes,
and we will see God more clearly
that we have ever seen
ourselves.
— Meister Eckhart
(Love Poems From God: Twelve Sacred Voices from the East and West by Daniel Ladinsky)

Nicole Neroulias: Why do natural disasters happen?

Amma: It’s mainly due to our own actions that negatively affect nature. Destroying forests, polluting rivers, cutting down trees. We have disturbed the balance of nature, disturbed the balance of the earth. Just like a building standing on pillars: if you demolish one pillar, that will create an imbalance in the whole structure. We are drilling oil wells, we are destroying mountains, polluting rivers, cutting down trees. So the only way is to have a compassionate approach. Look inwards, within you, and try to have a compassionate approach to nature. Our body is constituted with numerous cells. You can have some single cells that malfunction, and it creates an imbalance in the whole system.

Love is seeing and feeling life everywhere. When your heart is full of love, you sense life pulsating through all creation. ” Amma

The first step in spiritual life is to have compassion. A person who is kind and loving never needs to go searching for God. God rushes toward any heart that beats with compassion-it is God’s favorite place.  Amma

A revolution is required now. Not a worldly revolution, today the need is of a spiritual revolution. Amma

When love overflows and is expressed through every word & deed, we call it Compassion. That is the goal of religion.  Amma

What is the soul? Consciousness. The more awareness, the
deeper the soul, and when

such essence overflows, you feel a sacredness around. It’s
so simple to tell one who

puts on a robe and pretends to be a dervish from the real
thing. We know the taste

of pure water. Words can sound like a poem but not have
any juice, no flavor to

relish. How long do you look at pictures on a bathhouse
wall? Soul is what draws

you away from those pictures to talk with the old woman
who sits outside by the door

in the sun. She’s half blind, but she has what soul loves
to flow into. She’s kind; she weeps.

She makes quick personal decisions, and laughs so easily.

(“The Soul of Rumi” – versions of Rumi by Coleman Barks)
