…The day you are discontented not because you want more of something but without knowing what it is you want; when you are sick at heart of everything that you have been pursuing so far and you are sick of the pursuit itself, then your heart will attain a great clarity, an insight that will cause you mysteriously to delight in everything and in nothing.

Love is light, an understanding, a deep respect for yourself. Fear is darkness, an ungrateful response to existence. Ego is a thief that lives in fear –always running away, always hiding. Awareness is when you realize you do not need crutches to walk. Throw away the crutches– you will fall, but I guarantee you will rise and walk on your own feet.

“If you imagine someone who is brave enough to withdraw all his projections, then you get an individual who is conscious of a pretty thick shadow. Such a man has saddled himself with new problems and conflicts. He has become a serious problem to himself, as he is now unable to say that they do this or that, they are wrong, and they must be fought against. He lives in the “House of the Gathering.” Such a man knows that whatever is wrong in the world is in himself, and if he only learns to deal with his own shadow he has done something real for the world. He has succeeded in shouldering at least an infinitesimal part of the gigantic, unsolved social problems of our day.”

Have watched the May 21 date come and go silently from the sidelines… Just watching, curious and aware of  the power and play of the mind… Have lived long enough to know how the mind with its intertwining lattice of love, hope, hate, devotion, beliefs, dogmas, doctrines, righteousness, and tender longings can leave the mind and heart shambled and chumped by its own creation….

Because of my own follies of heart and shattered beliefs i woke feeling a tender kinship in joined humanity for all that thought they would not be here… could not be Here…. or do not know how to be Here…I have not been one that could say with any kind of integrity or honesty; ” Except for the grace of God there go i.”, rather it has been, ‘ There go i. . . . ”

This day once again, silent on the sidelines. There is a holding of  shattered minds and bruised hearts within the grace of Love which cannot be touched….Often these days there is this holding space, accompanied  with a tender, stark, subtle, poignant ache for all that is born, and dreams, and dies, within that which remains forever…

May Peace be known in all minds and  hearts…

May we all be free….

The Love of Morning

It is hard sometimes to drag ourselves
back to the love of morning
after we’ve lain in the dark crying out
O God, save us from the horror . . . .

God has saved the world one more day
even with its leaden burden of human evil;
we wake to birdsong.
And if sunlight’s gossamer lifts in its net
the weight of all that is solid,
our hearts, too, are lifted,
swung like laughing infants;

but on gray mornings,
all incident – our own hunger,
the dear tasks of continuance,
the footsteps before us in the earth’s
beloved dust, leading the way – all,
is hard to love again
for we resent a summons
that disregards our sloth, and this
calls us, calls us.

Non-Duality
The bell tolls at four in the morning.
I stand by the window,
barefoot on the cool floor.
.
The garden is still dark.
I wait for the mountains and rivers to reclaim their shapes.
There is no light in the deepest hours of the night.
.
Yet, I know you are there
in the depth of the night,
the immeasurable world of the mind.
You, the known, have been there
ever since the knower has been.
The dawn will come soon,
and you will see
that you and the rosy horizon
are within my two eyes.It is for me that the horizon is rosy
and the sky blue.
.
Looking at your image in the clear stream,
you answer the question by your very presence.
Life is humming the song of the non-dual marvel.
.
I suddenly find myself smiling
in the presence of this immaculate night.
.
I know because I am here that you are there,
and your being has returned to show itself
in the wonder of tonight’s smile.
.
In the quiet stream,I swim gently.
The murmur of the water lulls my heart.
.
A wave serves as a pillow
I look up and see
a white cloud against the blue sky,
the sound of Autumn leaves,
the fragrance of hay-
each one a sign of eternity.
.
A bright star helps me find my way back to myself.
I know because you are there that I am here.
.
The stretching arm of cognition
in a lightning flash,
joining together a million eons of distance,
joining together birth and death,
joining together the known and the knower.
.
In the depth of the night,
as in the immeasurable realm of consciousness,
the garden of life and I
remain each other’s objects.
.
The flower of being is singing the song of emptiness.
.
The night is still immaculate,
but sounds and images from you
have returned and fill the pure night.
.
I feel their presence.
By the window, with my bare feet on the cool floor,
I know I am here
for you to be.

I have had my dream – like others –
and it has come to nothing, so that
I remain now carelessly
with feet planted on the ground
and look up at the sky –
feeling my clothes about me,
the weight of my body in my shoes,
the rim of my hat, air passing in and out
at my nose – and decide to dream no more.

William Carlos Williams

dark night of the soul

“At this stage the cosmological dark side rises up like a black mountain to bar the way. Death returns, the ugliness of society returns, and the personal devil returns, all dancing like puppets on the strings of nihilism, meaninglessness, suffering, and heedless despair at the impersonal nature of the cosmos. There is no answer that we can comprehend, no purpose of life that we can understand. At this point, we’re each on our own – and its not very comforting to know that the books say we’ll live through it.”
– William Carl Eichman

“Somewhere along the journey of remembering who we really are, we may find ourselves in a very uncomfortable space, a void in which we realize that we haven’t totally let go of our old beliefs, and on the other hand we have yet to fully plug into the new truths we have discovered. This awkward “place of mind” can bring on an internal crisis of uncertainty, instability, confusion, frustration, and a most unspeakable despair as the “dark night” sets in and makes its presence felt.”
– Nicholas Schmidt
